Geo-data specialist Fugro has announced that in August, it successfully completed the first deepwater AUV site survey for Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP).

The survey was completed using a dedicated geophysical survey vessel called the Fugro Equator and the Fugro ES-V AUV in water depths of 600 meters. There were no HSSE incidents during the operations.

According to Fugro, the survey results will be crucial for planning a safe drilling program, as they provide engineering and design studies with key inputs for pipeline routing and subsea structures in future deepwater field developments.

“This campaign was the first deepwater survey project for Shell in Brunei and its success will lead to many more deepwater programs,” comments Ceri Powell, BSP’s managing director.

After the successful site survey, Fugro was awarded the associated geotechnical site investigation and geoconsultancy contract from BSP. The project included a review of the geophysical data and desktop study to help BSP define its geotechnical scope of work.

In October, the Fugro Voyager, a dedicated deepwater geotechnical drilling vessel, completed the fieldwork, also with no zero HSSE incidents.

“We are pleased to provide our deepwater site characterization capability to another deepwater field development in the APAC region,” says Jerry Paisley, Business Line Director, Asia Pacific Region.

“BSP has been our client for more than 40 years and part of that success is owed to our unique ‘Triple A’ approach, where we acquire, analyze and advise on Geo-data across the full project life cycle.”
