The need for industry certification
Professional industry certifications play an important role ensuring safe and efficient operations of complex systems. AUVSI has worked with industry experts to create Trusted Operator™ to ensure that remote pilot training conforms to industry standards and supports trust and acceptance of the use of uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) around the world.
Trusted Operator™ is a professional uncrewed systems community initiative aimed at supporting industry accepted remote operator standards and protocols to further the safe and sustainable advancement of the industry.
Trusted Operator™ Protocol Certification Manual (PCM)
At the heart of Trusted Operator™ is the Protocol Certification Manual or PCM. A protocol, is defined as a specified level of knowledge, ability, performance, or compliance. Applicants for Trusted Operator certification must demonstrate conformance with each protocol applicable to their desired level of certification.
The Trusted Operator™ PCM points to over 300 accredited standards, established policies, procedures, best practices, and codes of conduct across three levels of certification — with each level commensurate to the complexity and hazards of UAS operations .
The Trusted Operator™ PCM establishes the certification requirements for individuals and organizations to become recognized as safe, competent, and reliable commercial UAS remote pilots and service providers through Trusted Operator™.
