DJI and Epson will team up to create drone goggles, where the users of a UAS will be able to look at the flight of the UAS through the actual UAS itself. The glasses that will be used are Epson’s Moverio BT-300 AR Glasses, and they will be able to be used in conjunction with DJI’s Phantom, Matrice and Inspire lines of remote-controlled flyers. The Pentagon is developing a UAS to use for a variety of purposes, including hunting down enemies and flying inside of buildings to provide information for military bosses by creating 3-D maps. Funding for the development of the UAS comes from a $1 million Army contract awarded to a special Pentagon project called Defense Innovation Unit Experimental. A firm called Shield AI will help with the development of the UAS. (Daily Mail)

A Volvo autonomous truck recently completed a test drive through an underground mine. Volvo eventually plans to use their Volvo FMX, a fully autonomous truck, to conduct research in the Boliden mine in Kristineberg, Sweden. (New Atlas)

An autonomous car demonstration will take place in November in the city of Tauranga, New Zealand. The New Zealand Traffic Institute, Volvo, New Zealand Transport Agency and the Ministry of Transport will conduct the demonstration on a six- to nine-mile stretch of public road. The vehicle that will be used during the demonstration will be a Volvo. (Bay of Plenty Times)

A USV startup called Saildrone has raised $14 million in an effort to put their wind-powered autonomous seafaring vessels out on sea so that they can collect different types of data. Some of the missions that the USVs can be tasked with are tracking ocean acidification, following marine life and detecting early signs of oil spills. (VentureBeat)
