The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will begin working with an engineering consultation company called CH2M to develop policies aimed at the continuing integration of both autonomous and connected vehicles into the state’s driving space.

For CH2M’s Highways and Bridges Director Susan Martinovich, an opportunity to work with NDOT will go a long way in keeping Nevada at the head of the autonomous vehicle movement.

“We’re honored to be helping the state of Nevada advance its positon as an innovation leader, leveraging emerging technologies to drive economic development alongside the AV/CV [automated vehicle and connected vehicle] benefits of saving lives through crash elimination, increasing travel time dependability, reducing the need for new infrastructure and improving energy efficiency,” Martinovich said in a press release.

According to the CH2M website, some of the initiatives that it will look to tackle include leveraging state infrastructure and real estate to further promote AV/CV testing and ultimate ubiquity in Nevada, promoting collaborative policies, standards and programs to showcase AV/CV innovations that expand economic growth and create jobs in Nevada, and expanding transportation innovation and connecting Nevada’s residents through advanced mobility options.
