Vincenzo Navanteri of Italy recently won the Prince Alvaro de Orleans-Borbon Grant worth $20,000 for his design of a futuristic “drone ambulance.” The grant will help Navanteri and his team develop their idea of a self-piloting UAS ambulance capable of carrying one person for up to 150 kilometers at 110 kilometers per hour. Cyient Solutions & Systems Pvt. Ltd. (CSS) has received its first supply order for its SpyLite mini UAS from a unit of the Indian Army. Described as an “advanced, combat-proven,” mini UAS, SpyLite will be used for high altitude aerial surveillance. (Cyient)

A New Transportation and Mobility Task Force has launched in Chicago. Headed by former U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, the Task Force, among many things, will explore autonomous, connected and electric vehicles. (Medium)

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office in Sioux County, Iowa recently completed its UAS training exercise. The training involved a scenario in which a staff role player with dementia wandered into a nearby cornfield and could not be located by search parties. 3D Robotics (3DR) has partnered with Esri, a geographic information system company, to develop Site Scan Esri Edition. Site Scan Esri Edition is a custom version of 3DR’s iOS app for UAS data capture, which works seamlessly with ArcGIS Online and streamlines processing in Esri’s Drone2Map software. (3DR)

Riptide Autonomous Solutions has launched Riptide Autonomous Solutions Canada, which is the company’s first international expansion. Riptide says that the expansion is designed to support the increasing demand for “affordable, flexible AUV systems” in Canada and abroad.
