Drone and AAM Prepared Recap: January 2024

As January ends, so does the first month of the 2024 legislative session. With about 50 bills having already been introduced this year, and with about 70 remaining active from the 2023 session, it's clear that advanced air mobility (AAM) and uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) will remain a topic of interest in legislatures across the country.

What We’re Working on

Drone Prepared: Drone Prepared is our industry-backed fifty-state educational campaign consisting of educational materials and model legislation. Drone Prepared aims to create a secure and cohesive regulatory environment for drone operations, encourage commercial operations, and increase economic investment and job creation.

In the Legislature: Last week, the Drone Prepared model legislation was introduced as Senate Bill 169 in South Dakota. We have been working with Senator Johnson and Senator Foster on this bill and are excited to see it formally introduced.

AAM Prepared: In December 2023, we launched our second fifty-state educational campaign, AAM Prepared. The campaign is focused on ensuring states and localities are prepared for the future of aviation and are enabling the integration of AAM into their communities. It is developed, vetted, and supported by leading manufacturers and operators in the AAM industry.

Lawmakers Engaged: We have been engaging with stakeholders and lawmakers across the country since launch, holding constructive conversations on best practices for AAM integrations. We are also engaged with AAM advisory committees across the Country, participating on committees in Utah, Texas, and Illinois.

Stay Connected

This is just the beginning of the legislation session, with four more months to go. As more measures are introduced, new trends may emerge, and new issues may take precedence. We look forward to continuing to educate lawmakers with our educational campaigns and continuing to push for smart and effective drone and AAM policy
