Following an open and competitive tender process, Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) technology provider Altitude Angel has been awarded the contract to provide Netherlands’ Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL), with its first nationwide UTM platform.

Altitude Angel says that the technically advanced, nationwide, UTM platform that it is providing the Netherlands will serve as the foundation for the safe integration of UAS, helping to further increase the use of this technology in Dutch airspace for years to come.

During Altitude Angel’s initial three-year contract, the company will provide LVNL with several products and services to facilitate the safe integration of drones into LVNL controlled airspace. These products and services include a foundation U-Space platform that enables LVNL to open Dutch airspace to commercial drone use, as well as a drone registration system and web and mobile flight planning platforms.

“At Altitude Angel, our goal is simple; we want to enable our customers to unlock the tremendous potential of drones and UAM to transform lives and revolutionize businesses, safely and securely,” explains Richard Parker, Altitude Angel, CEO and founder.

“Through our partnership, we're enabling LVNL to deploy new capabilities to serve – and catalyze – the emerging drone and UAM industry.”

Altitude Angel describes the Netherlands as an “ideal test bed” for mobility technologies thanks to the country’s “innovation-minded government, modern infrastructure and strong traffic management expertise.” The company notes that one of the ways this technology could prove beneficial is in combatting climate change, as electric UAS could be used to make deliveries, which would take vehicles off of the roads.

“Our ambition is to be the world’s best air traffic control organization in terms of safety, people and delivering reliability. Altitude Angel embodies those values, will be an important cooperating partner helping us realize our goals,” says Jurgen van Avermaete, LVNL, General Manager Procedures.
