Hydroid has announced several updates to its Remus autonomous underwater vehicle AUV and Remus vehicle interface program. Five updates will be made for the Remus AUV, while three updates will be made to the Remus VIP technology.

Three of the updates for the Remus AUV include added support to the current technologies in place, those being the line capture line recovery module, the BlueView MB1350 multibeam profiler sonar and the Rockwell Collins Polaris GPS. Added support for the LCLR module will increase operational flexibility for autonomous launch and recovery. Added support for the BlueView MB1350 multibeam profiler sonar will combine that technology and a side-scan sonar to ultimately fill the side-scan nadir. Lastly, added support to the Rockwell Collins Polaris GPS will allow for changes to be made between the GB-GRAM and Polaris GPS receivers, which will now be supported with the Remus configuration file.

Other updates to the Remus AUV will improve navigation through updates of the Kearfott INS, as well as updates to the Recon Interface.

For the Remus VIP, the updates start with improved licensing of the VIP thanks to an encrypted license file. Updates have also been made to the VIP’s automatic identification system, which serves as a tracking system used for locating and identifying vessels through the electronic exchange of data. The AIS will now include real-time current traffic conditions and positions of vessels at sea. And finally, there has been the addition of the Vipre interface, which is a TCP/IP server running within the VIP that offers real-time status to the vehicle connected through an Ethernet cord or Wi-Fi.
