H3 Dynamics Releases New Small UAS Powered by Fuel Cells

Singapore-based H3 Dynamics’ new Hywings small UAS is capable of 10-hour flights because of its use of hydrogen fuel cells for power, the company said in announcing the system.

“At a total takeoff weight of just 7 kilograms, hydrogen UAVs such as Hywings can cover larger areas of land faster, while removing the need for catapult launchers or runways typically required by larger, heavier and more expensive systems,” the company said in its press release.

Aside from its small size and convenient launch ability, the Hywings can cover up to 500 kilometers over a 10-hour flight period. If representatives from HES Energy Systems, a subsidiary of H3 Dynamics, have their way though, the Hywings UAS, and others, might eventually have operability between 50 and 80 hours in electric flight.

HES Energy Systems is also working on creating field-refueling systems to accompany the Hywings, and other H3 Dynamics systems such as the Hycopter and the Dronebox. The fueling stations would be smaller than typical ones, making them portable for convenient movability.
