General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. launched their new product this week in front of an audience representing the United states, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway.

The product, SkyGuardian, is a type-certifiable (STANAG 4571) version of the Predator B product line.

GA-ASI wanted to deliver an RPA system that could operate under the requirements of non-military space. After five years of research, SkyGuardian is the product that can do that, the company says.

“The SkyGuardian name reflects the system’s role in protecting ground forces, as well as its performance of non-military missions like border-surveillance, maritime patrol, and relief over-watch in cases of natural disaster,” says Linden Blue, GA-ASI’s CEO.

The SkyGuardian is able to fly for more than 35 hours while traveling at a fast speed. The product will follow NATO’s UAV system airworthiness requirements and the UK DEFSTAN 00-970.

GA-ASI is set to release the first production aircraft in 2018. It will be able to transmit HD video to the ground while hosting a variety of sensor and communications payloads.
