Webinar Description:
Kongsberg Geospatial and Shield AI demonstrate how they rapidly and successfully deployed the V-BAT UAS and Kongsberg MIDAS and IRIS for ISR sea trials with the Canadian Coast Guard.

Shield AI demonstrated that the V-BAT is a rapidly deployable VTOL UAS that can go to sea on a variety of surface vessels - ranging from commercial, military to homeland security, and that can immediately provide a long-endurance ISR capability. The dilemma with UAS operations at sea is that not all surface vessels possess adequate on-board/organic sensors to provide the required aircraft / airspace separation.
Kongsberg Geospatial delivered that airspace situational awareness capability by providing the identification and localization of local ships and aircraft during the sea trials using AIS and ADS-B displayed on its IRIS workstation.   The resulting common operating picture enhanced the mission effectiveness of the airborne UAS and also increased the safety of the UAS in carrying out its missions.

Alongside this situational awareness capability, Kongsberg deployed its mission analysis software capability called MIDAS. Some missions require a “chain of custody” or analysis of the UAS mission sensor data. This “tactical edge” sensor analysis system connects to the UAS mission’s sensors, stores the sensor data and can then play back that data with a date/time stamp and geographical location that can help many agencies in mission execution and subsequent chain of custody if required.

This brief will describe the recent maritime deployment of the Shield AI V-BAT VTOL UAS with the Kongsberg IRIS and MIDAS software capabilities.
