Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Emergency Response
Presented by John Lindstrom - Adjunct Instructor Hennepin Technical College

With the rapid growth of the small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) industry public safety agencies are finding new tools to aid them in providing community services during emergencies. This course will introduce the students to the various applications of sUAS in fire, rescue, hazardous materials and law enforcement agencies.

Bio for John Lindstrom:

John is an Adjunct Instructor at Hennepin Technical College. He has a wide range of experience from the Public and Private sector to Higher Education. He has exceptional leadership, organizational development, time management skills, enhanced knowledge of identifying, developing and implementing training needs, and succession planning. He received his Associate of Arts degree from North Hennepin Community College. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program. He has acquired knowledge in the areas of public safety, fire investigation, emergency medical services, technical rescue, and hazardous materials response through a career as a professional firefighter/EMT. He is a retired Battalion Chief and continues to advance his experience as a fire/rescue instructor. In addition to his fire service experience, he holds a Commercial Pilot certificate for rotorcraft (helicopter) with an instrument rating, a Private Pilot certificate for airplane, and a Remote Pilot certificate for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems. He has over 20 years of aviation experience including Chief Ground Instructor for an FAAapproved Part 141 Pilot Ground School. Currently, he works as an adjunct instructor providing customized safety training for general industry and construction firms throughout the upper Midwest focusing on OSHA-compliance. In 2015, he developed the curriculum for a Remote Pilot Ground School course, which he currently teaches at Hennepin Technical College. He volunteers as the lead instructor for a technical rescue training program for high school students enrolled in the Opportunities in Emergency Care Program that includes an annual competition at the International Rescue and Emergency Care Association Conference.
