New air vehicles and emergent capabilities in aviation, under the AAM umbrella, are enabled by electric propulsion, lithium batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, autonomous systems, and supporting physical and digital infrastructure, are enabling a new paradigm in mobility for people and cargo.

Companies like Joby, Archer, Beta Technologies, Supernal, Elroy Air, AIR EV, and Electra Aero are making rapid progress towards electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL), hybrid-electric short takeoff and landing, personal private air transport, remotely piloted autonomous cargo operations, and other innovations that will enable lower costs, improved safety and sustainability, and improved service to under-served regional transportation needs. Early adopters are flying today with some expected to achieve certification and enter service as soon as 2024.
