Two electric-power EZ10 minibuses are being tested in Paris until early April.

The buses are driving on the Charles de Gaulle bridge and running in separate lanes so that they will not interfere with other traffic says, Samuel Petrequin of the Associated Press.

Catherine Baratti-Elbaz, head of the local district in Paris, says the experiment is “To respond to the pollution emergency in big urban zones it is urgent to innovate new transportation systems that are more environmentally friendly.”

The EZ10 was developed by Easymile, as French company, which already has a system operating in the United States. The bus can carry six passengers and travels at 9 mph. Its GPS-guided system can also detect obstacles and bypass them by adjusting its course.

The ride is free and will run between the Lyon and Austerlitz stations.
