The 2017 IEEE Robotics and Automation Award for Product Innovation from the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) has been won by Clearpath Robotics.

Julian Ware, General Manager for Research Solutions at Clearpath Robotics, says, “We are honored to receive this award and to be recognized for our ongoing contributions to global robotics research community.”

Clearpath Robotics won this award for its Jackal unmanned ground vehicle. Clearpath’s UGV is a small, durable, weather-proof mobile robotic designed for application development and rapid prototyping. Jackal has an easy-to-use mounting platform for sensors and payloads.

The company says Jackal is a UGV that other industries, such as, mining, military, agriculture, and environmental monitoring have adopted.

“The versatility of Jackal UGV has encouraged wide adoption in applications that we did not envision. Customers are continuing to dream up new uses for our robot,” says Ware.

The IEEE Robotics and Automation Award for Product Innovation was set to give recognition to companies who are innovative in the robotics and automation science, and technology field.

Jackal is “a great product for field robotics, very well designed and implemented and with many successful use cases and happy clients from R&D and beyond,” says David Orin, senior past president for IEEE RAS and chair of the Awards Committee.

The IEEE will present the award in Singapore, at the annual International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA).
