Tech, Regulatory, Market, and Media Trends to Watch In 2023: Takeaways From AUVSI’s Future Forecast Webinar

The advancement of uncrewed technology relies heavily on a variety of factors coming together and shaping the future of the industry. The industry is in exciting stages of both innovation and operations and AUVSI is eagerly leaning into both in the new year.

AUVSI Advocacy Successes in FY 2023 Omnibus

As the industry’s leading advocacy organization, this year AUVSI has diligently advocated for appropriations priorities, across all three domains and in the commercial and defense sectors, to advance and scale the uncrewed systems and robotics industries. AUVSI both adopted our own appropriations priorities and advocated for our members’ own appropriations requests.

AUVSI Urges Congress to Avoid Full-Year CR

Today, AUVSI urged Congressional leadership to avoid funding the federal government via a full-year continuing resolution (CR) and explained how it would negatively impact the uncrewed vehicle industrial base and U.S. global competitiveness. As Michael Robbins, Chief Advocacy Officer, wrote, it is critical in this era of strategic global competition for the U.S. to invest where we can gain an edge -- and our position as a global leader in tech and innovation can provide that edge. However, a yearlong CT would hinder our competitiveness and weaken the domestic industrial base. Read the full letter here, with text pasted below: ---

AUVSI Launches Multi-State "Drone Prepared" Advocacy Campaign to Help States Prepare for the Future of Advanced Aviation

Today, the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) announced the launch of “Drone Prepared,” a multi-state initiative to help lawmakers ensure that their state or locality is ready for the benefits the future of uncrewed and autonomous flight will bring to their communities.

Aviation Easement Proposals Would Inhibit Drone Integration

As the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of uncrewed systems, autonomy, and robotics, AUVSI focuses on educating lawmakers and promoting smart policy that supports the growth of the uncrewed systems industry. Over the course of the past few legislative sessions, there has been a growing trend in the state legislative bodies around measures that seek to restrict and tax drone operations, dismantle federal authority of the airspace, and create a dangerous and impossible to navigate patchwork of local and state regulations. These measures often focus on “avigation easements” – essentially the creation of toll lanes in the sky for drones.

U.S. House passes Drone Infrastructure Inspection Grant Act

On September 13, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5315 with bipartisan support. The vote follows a letter sent to House leadership last week by an industry coalition in support of the bill and urging for a swift vote. AUVSI joined the coalition letter and advocated to Members of the House in support of bill passage.  What it is:

AUVSI Maritime Advocacy Committee Elects New Leadership

AUVSI’s Maritime Advocacy Committee (MAC) sets the federal legislative and regulatory priorities for the association based on input and feedback from its membership. The committee develops advocacy goals and policy positions to enable all AUVSI members to speak with a unified voice on behalf of the UMS industry.    Last month, the Committee held leadership elections. Larry Ryder, Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs, Austal USA will serve as the new MAC Chair. Jenny Roberts, Vice President - Navy Fleet Requirements & Acquisition Accounts, SAIC will serve as Vice Chair for the next two years.

AUVSI Joins Chorus of Stakeholders Calling on Biden-Harris Administration to Support U.S. Leadership in Advanced Aviation

On the heels of the White House Summit on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) earlier this month, AUVSI today joined a group of UAS and AAM stakeholders in sending a letter to the Biden-Harris Administration urging executive action on maintaining and expanding American leadership in aviation innovation and advanced technologies.
