Kespry, XAP 360 partner to deliver country-wide drone-based residential roofing inspection program

Kespry has partnered with a nationwide network of certified roofing contractors called XAP 360 to deliver a new country-wide drone-based residential roofing inspection program. Designed with transparency and accuracy when conducting roof inspections for homeowners in mind, the program is expected to ensure that claims payouts occur “rapidly.” XAP 360 and Kespry say that they want to “regain the trust of residential property owners” who have had frustrating experiences by establishing verifiable, credible standards for residential roof inspections, which involves artificial intelligence and machine learning-based analytics.

Ohio team receives grant to develop and deploy automated transportation technologies for state's rural roads and highways

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded an Ohio-based team of industry, academia and community partners a $7.5 million grant known as the Automated Driving Systems Demonstration Grant, which will be used to develop and deploy “automated transportation solutions” for the state’s rural roads and highways. “The award of this grant shows that Ohio continues to be at the center of this new transportation technology era,” says Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.  “Ohio is committed to being at the forefront of connected and autonomous vehicle technology development.”

Flylogix Limited, partners launch North Sea drone initiative

‘Beyond the Horizon’ UAS company Flylogix Limited has announced the launch of a North Sea drone initiative in collaboration with multinational integrated oil and gas company Total S.A., UK air traffic navigation services provider NATS, and the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC). The project will seek to overcome the challenges associated with UAS inspection activities in the North Sea, and look to provide commercial UAS operators with easier access to UK controlled airspace for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations.

Red Cat, GoChain partner to equip GoChain platform with blockchain black box and distributed storage system

Red Cat, a provider of distributed data storage, analytics and services for the drone industry, has partnered with GoChain, which provides scalable blockchain technologies for enterprises, non-governmental organizations and nonprofits. Through this partnership, the GoChain platform will be equipped with Red Cat’s blockchain black box and distributed storage system, which is designed for UAS, and includes security and encryption that regulators and insurance companies can trust. That platform includes multiple integrated systems that allow industry regulators to track and review UAS flight data, insurance companies to insure UAS with dependable third-party data, and pilots to ensure they stay compliant with regulators.

Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners partners with Georgia Tech and Delta Air Lines to advance autonomous vehicle research

In an effort to advance autonomous vehicle and infrastructure research, Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners has partnered with Georgia Tech and Delta Air Lines. The entities say that the collaboration between Curiosity Lab and Delta will provide Georgia Tech researchers with “critical seed funding.” Researchers will also have access to the Lab’s 1.5 mile autonomous vehicle test track and living laboratory. Some of the features of Curiosity Lab include dedicated fiber, smart poles and a network operations center for researchers to track and trend data from connected internet-of-things (IoT) devices.

Oneida Indian Nation partners with NUAIR to use UAS to monitor and protect land and environmental resources

In an effort to enhance its ability to monitor, observe, manage and protect its lands and environmental resources using UAS technology, the Oneida Indian Nation, which is an indigenous nation of American Indian people whose sacred and sovereign homelands are located in Central New York, has partnered with Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research (NUAIR). The Nation will leverage NUAIR’s UAS and related technologies, as well as its expertise, to gather and assess data about its lands and environmental resources, mainly from isolated or hard-to-reach areas. The Nation will also use this technology to further implement and enforce programs aimed at protecting these resources.

Trumbull to scale UAS inspections through new contract from ExxonMobil

ExxonMobil has awarded Trumbull a five-year UAS contract to expand its drone data collection and inspections. One of the first companies in the U.S. approved to conduct UAS operations, Trumbull has supported ExxonMobil since 2014. “Trumbull is grateful to serve amazing clients. After conducting data collection and inspections for ExxonMobil in over 25 locations, we are excited to scale operations starting in the Americas,” Trumbull CEO Dyan Gibbens says. “We look forward to helping ExxonMobil integrate amazing safety, efficiency, and data-driven technology into their operations.”

Planck Aero awarded contract to produce mobile tethered UAS for tactical ground vehicles

The United States Department of Defense’s Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO) has awarded Planck Aerosystems (Planck Aero) a contract worth $2 million to produce mobile tethered UAS that can be integrated onto tactical ground vehicles. The mobile tethered UAS are equipped with Planck Aero’s autonomy and vision-guided navigation technology, which the company says is ideal for flying from moving platforms, GPS-denied operation, and target detection and tracking.
