Canadian-based engineering company Stantec has announced that it will expand its UAS professional services to several cities in Canada and, for the first time, the United States.

Cities in the United States that will receive the services are Santa Barbara, California, Tucson, Arizona, Reno, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Canadian cities that will receive the services are Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Ottawa.

Using UAS developed by San Francisco-based Skycatch, Stantec will use its survey grade multirotor UAS to complete a variety of environmental services including geomatics, community development and mining. Thanks to the UAS and accompanying technology, Stantec will be able to finish ground surveys up to five times faster versus using other applications.

The UAS will also allow the company to process, view and share 3-D information with both staff and clients alike through a web browser, while using a safe and secure cloud-based data solution.

Kevin Grover, UAS operations manager for Stantec, is extremely enthusiastic about the expansion of the company’s unmanned services at home and into the United States.

“It’s an exciting time at Stantec as we expand our UAS fleet across Canada and now offer services in the United States for the first time, leading the industry with our geomatics capabilities,” he said.

“The Skycatch system provides everything we need in one package that is easy to use. This will allow us to provide clients with detailed 3-D terrain and high resolution imagery much faster than before.”

Stantec, which has been flying UAS commercially in Canada since 2013, has met all regulatory and safety standards for UAS operations in Canada and the United States. The company has also developed an internal UAS training program, and created a UAS Governance Committee to evaluate practices and operational procedures of unmanned systems.
