AUVSI Joins Coalition for Future Mobility

Leading unmanned systems and robotics association expands automated vehicle advocacy

Arlington, Va. – The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) today announced its membership in the Coalition for Future Mobility, a group of organizations devoted to advancing automated vehicle technology.

Established in July, the Coalition for Future Mobility calls for greater road safety, cleaner air, and enhanced independence and self-sufficiency through the development and deployment of Highly Automated Vehicle (HAV) technologies. AUVSI is joining nearly a dozen other associations and advocacy groups in the Coalition, including the Auto Alliance, the Alliance for Transportation Innovation, Global Automakers and the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association.

“Automated vehicle technology is expanding rapidly, and it is critical that government and industry stakeholders work together to ensure that the regulatory framework is in place to foster the advancement of this industry” said Brian Wynne, president and CEO of AUVSI. “We look forward to joining the other members of the Coalition to work with Congress and create a flexible framework that will help accelerate the deployment of automated vehicles and accommodate future innovations.”

AUVSI members represent a cross section of the automated vehicle industry who are engaged in the technical, operational, and policy issues that are necessary for developing and commercializing unmanned systems. By participating in the Coalition, AUVSI will share information and perspective on the enabling technologies that will contribute to the expansion of the automated vehicle market.

For the past four years, AUVSI has convened the Automated Vehicles Symposium, which brings together representatives from academic institutions, government, and industry to exchange ideas and insights to expedite the future of unmanned vehicles. The 2018 Symposium will take place in San Francisco from July 10 to 12. Additionally, the AUVSI XPONENTIAL annual trade show features exhibitors and speakers from the automated vehicle industry. XPONENTIAL 2018 will take place in Denver from April 30 to May 3.

“The list of benefits automation can provide touch every angle of personal mobility,” the Coalition said in a statement. “This Congress has a tremendous opportunity to accelerate the deployment of automated technologies to save lives, reduce traffic congestion, reduce fuel use and carbon emissions, expand personal mobility and meet our nation’s current and future infrastructure, environmental and economic challenges.”
