AUTOMATED GOODS MOVEMENT SUMMIT 2022

The movement of goods by autonomous vehicle systems is influenced by many factors: from public policy and law enforcement, to staffing the autonomous vehicle fleet of the future, and then outfitting it with an effective technology stack that affords safety.  The day shaped out with an exhaustive exploration of these and many other topics important in promoting the automated movement of goods in the world around us.

The Future of Freight is Autonomous

In a keynote discussion at AUVSI’s XPONENTIAL in Orlando, Florida, Tomas Ohlson, a founding engineer at Einride, a Swedish transport company specializing in electric and self-driving vehicles, described his company's efforts in automating the delivery of freight.   Supply Chain Digitization The automation of freight delivery - especially parcel delivery for the "last-mile" - is an attractive topic as supply chain logistics have taken center stage as the movement of goods seems more paramount than ever before.

Reporting on Autonomy: Journalists Collaborate on Messaging

During the first keynote of the final day of XPONENTIAL 2022, journalists from various outlets joined together on stage to discuss the topic of reporting on autonomy. The representative panel featured: Jacob Demmitt, U.S. marketing and communications manager, Wing - who served as the moderator, Paul Brinkmann, staff reporter, Aerospace America magazine, Frederic Lardinois, editor with TechCrunch, and Marco Santana, founder, Orlando Tech News.

Operationalizing Robots

As part of Wednesday’s keynote addresses at AUVSI’s XPONENTIAL, leaders within the robotics industry provided their perspectives on moving from innovative concepts to refined products to solve problem with autonomous systems. Tim Dykstra, director of strategic partnerships with Boston Dynamics (creators of well-known robot "dog" Spot) and Kay Murphy, a partner in asset optimization with IBM, have both worked in tandem in helping shape projects from the earliest ideas, to developing proof of concept, and finished robotics products that perform a function and solve some type of problem. The journey in getting from such a beginning to an end can be arduous and packed with trial, error, and much relationship building.

An Agile US Department of Defense: A Message from Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering
