Skydio X10 Sets a New Standard for Drone Imaging Technology

What a drone can do is often defined by what a drone can see.  The Skydio X10 is a new drone that pushes the limits of UAV sensors. It captures best-in-class visual data to help infrastructure operators, utility providers, telecom providers, and other enterprise users complete their toughest jobs.  The X10 combines Skydio’s intelligent flight software with a sensor payload that includes ultra-high resolution visual and radiometric thermal cameras.  These sensors put the whole scene into focus and detect details from a distance – capturing the right visual data for a variety of missions.

Utilizing Skydio Drones to Improve & Scale Critical Infrastructure Inspections for Departments of Transportation

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 27th at 3:00 – 4:00 pm EDT Webinar Description: Departments of Transportation (DOTs) are increasingly turning to drone technology to supplement critical infrastructure inspections. From bridge and construction inspections to post-incident damage assessments, the use of drones is helping transportation agencies improve safety, accelerate decision-making, and enhance asset maintenance.

GA-ASI completes second multi-domain operations demonstration with Gray Eagle UAS

During flight operations at Yuma Proving Grounds, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) showcased a suite of long range sensors on its Gray Eagle Extended Range (GE-ER) UAS during the second demonstration in a series of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) demonstrations.  GA-ASI worked with industry for the Jan. 30 demo to equip the GE-ER UAS with best-of-breed long-range ISR payloads and Air Launch Effects (ALEs). The UAS showed a persistent stand-off capability with up to 40 hours of endurance, which can be used by commanders to orchestrate forces in the MDO environment.

WQAD-TV's UAS prove to be advantageous for newsgathering efforts

WQAD-TV, which is based in Moline, Illinois, is using UAS as part of its newsgathering efforts. The television station has 12 aircraft—one for every photographer and one to spare. The fleet is made up of “Big NED” (News Eight Drone), nine “Little NEDs,” and a Phantom UAS. The station has found no shortage of uses for its UAS, including reaching locations that were previously unattainable, or difficult to access. “Whenever I was shooting, I was looking for ways to get high — up on a parking garage or a wall or fence; anything,” explains Andy McKay, WQAD's chief photographer, via the Quad-City Times.

Phase One Industrial launches new camera series that can be used on UAS

Phase One Industrial, which provides aerial imaging technologies, has launched its iXM-RS metric camera series and new Aerial Systems, which can be used on UAS. Full frame, 150 megapixels and available in RGB and Achromatic models, the iXM-RS150F camera is capable of increased productivity in a wide range of aerial image acquisition projects, thanks to its “ultra-high resolution (14204 x10652) backside illuminated CMOS sensor, fast capture speed (2 fps) and enhanced light sensitivity.” Phase One Industrial says that the iXM-RS camera is the “imaging heart” of its Aerial System, which is a fully integrated platform for mapping and surveying.

Drone use in construction industry skyrocketing

Ryan Moret, Field Solutions Manager at McCarthy Building Companies Inc., is part of a new generation of construction workers utilizing UAS in the construction industry.   A recent report on commercial drone trends by DroneDeploy shows that drone use has risen exponentially across a variety of fields; most notably, in the construction industry, where the use of this technology has skyrocketed by 239 percent year over year. “The cost of the tool is low enough the quality of data we’re receiving is just intrinsically valuable when we see it,” Moret says via CNBC.
