AUVSI New England UAS and AAM Summit: Industry Implications for Evolving Regulations

Last week, Max Rosen from AUVSI Headquarters attended AUVSI New England’s UAS and AAM Summit 2023. AUVSI New England is an active AUVSI Chapter that includes individuals and member companies all across the New England region.   Max participated in a panel discussion moderated by Jeffrey Vincent, Executive Director of the UAS Integration Office and a key FAA champion on UAS and AAM issues. He also had the opportunity to engage with several state-level aviation and aeronautics officials who took a keen interest in AUVSI’s Drone Prepared campaign. Below is his recap of top takeaways from the event:

Looking into E&C’s Hearing on AV Regulations in the U.S.

The world of transportation is on the cusp of a revolutionary transformation, and at the heart of this change lie autonomous vehicles (AVs). These cutting-edge technologies promise to reshape our roads, enhance safety, and revolutionize the way we move. This week, the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee held a crucial hearing to discuss the future of AVs, and AUVSI believe it is a step in the right direction. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons why we should wholeheartedly support federal AV framework legislation and embrace the possibilities AVs hold for a brighter, more efficient, and safer tomorrow.

On September 13, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5315 with bipartisan support. The vote follows a letter sent to House leadership last week by an industry coalition in support of the bill and urging for a swift vote. AUVSI joined the coalition letter and advocated to Members of the House in support of bill passage.  What it is:

AUVSI’s Hill Week 2021: Advancing the Unmanned Systems Industry’s Future

The core of AUVSI’s mission is to build, grow and foster a viable and sustainable unmanned and autonomous systems industry. Critical to achieving that goal is establishing balanced and appropriate policies that support the development and expanded operation of unmanned systems.   Since the last time AUVSI and members were able to convene for Hill Day in September 2019, the unmanned systems community has made unprecedented, even transformative, progress. A worldwide audience witnessed how rapidly unmanned systems could be developed and deployed to deliver critical capabilities where they are needed most.
