Tactical Robotics Ltd. has released new footage of its Cormorant UAS testing its new modifications. The modifications to the Cormorant, which was previously known as the AirMule, specifically impact the UAS’ flight control and multiple sensor suite. Video of the flight can be seen here.

The Cormorant is a fully autonomous vertical takeoff and landing UAS. Along with enhancements to its flight control and multiple sensor suite, the UAS also now includes an automatic takeoff and landing feature, which is standard for all flights starting this month. Tactical Robotics is also working on improving safety of the Cormorant’s flights through “implementation of full redundancy of all critical functions in the aircraft,” according to a company-issued press release.

While the UAS can be used by civilians, the military will have a special interest in using the Cormorant. Its primary missions will include cargo delivery, casualty evacuation, maritime missions, and large-scale humanitarian relief. Eventually, the Cormorant will also be capable of parcel delivery, with capabilities of carrying payloads of 1,100 pounds over a 30-plus mile distance.

Future testing will include an increase in airspeed, full pattern flights over adjacent fields and returns to the airfield for landing.
