AeroVironment, Inc. has announced the launch of its Quantix UAS and Decision Support System (DSS). Both technologies are a part of the company’s new integrated commercial information solution.

The Quantix is a VTOL capable UAS that requires just three steps for its launch. After its flight path is traced out on a map by the operator, the system provides that operator with a quick automated pre-flight check for safety and assurance purposes. Once that flight check is complete, the operator just has to hit the “fly” button and the UAS takes off.

While in flight, the UAS can optimize its flight path for maximum coverage, acquire data quickly and easily, and also includes “land now” and “return home” safety features.

The Decision Support System has several capabilities, chief among them the ability to produce high-resolution datasets and analysis thanks to advanced research and algorithms. Agriculture, bridge and railroad track inspections are just a few places where this application can be used, the company says.

The DSS is also built for fast data processing, integrating data streams from various types of sensors and data collection tools, and can also safely secure large quantities of image data for historical trend analysis.

Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment CEO and president, said he has high expectations for the company’s newest technologies, which mark a move into the commercial market for unmanned systems.

“Quantix and AV DSS provide our customers the first truly one-stop, full-service decision-support-system so they can make smarter, quicker decisions that will help increase their revenue and reduce uncertainty and risk,” Nawabi said in a company press release.

He added, “from an easy-to-use and reliable drone, to easy-to-access analytics, customers will benefit from our industry-leading drone and sensor technologies, proven reliable by the most exacting customers in the harshest environments on the planet.”

The Quantix and the DDS will both be available early next year.
