On the heels of the FAA's proposed rule for the remote identification of drones being printed in the Federal RegisterRemote ID UAS Service Supplier (RID-USS) Pierce Aerospace has partnered with smart mailbox company DRONEDEK LLC to advance commercial drone delivery.

The partnership will result in Pierce Aerospace combining its Remote Identification expertise and technologies with DRONEDEK’s patent portfolio in last-mile logistics, which includes a drone mailbox system.

Combined, the companies' systems will “provide the infrastructure that enables scalably of authenticated package delivery” to entities across the world including the government, as well as commercial, institutional, and residential locations.

“By pairing Flight Portal ID with DRONEDEK, we can deliver trust from the sky to the ground, verifying that the drones arriving at DRONEDEKs are the drones the consumers expect to be delivering their packages,” says Aaron Pierce, CEO Pierce Aerospace.

“At the macro level, this partnership establishes the infrastructure to scale drone delivery operations in the last mile.”

Through either network or local broadcast capabilities, Pierce Aerospace’s Flight Portal ID Remote ID service offers a way to authenticate “who's who” in the airspace. Meanwhile, DRONEDEK is a “smart Internet of Things (IoT)” mailbox that is designed to securely accept drone deliveries.

Equipped with Flight Portal ID, DRONEDEK provides assurance for consumers about the UAS that fly over their neighborhoods, while also allowing the UAS to authenticate deliveries to the mailboxes below. Ultimately, residents in a community can confirm that the UAS that arrive in their community are authorized to be there.

“The network effect of distributed DroneDek mailboxes equipped with Flight Portal ID technology further assures consumers and communities about drones overhead while strengthening and advancing the overall commercial drone delivery business model for all parcel carriers,” Pierce adds.
